Ketamine Therapy
Expanded States for Deep Healing
What Is Ketamine Therapy?
Ketamine was approved by the FDA as an anesthetic in the 1960s. Hospitals worldwide have used it safely for decades. Today, doctors prescribe ketamine off-label to help treat depression, anxiety, PTSD, and chronic pain.
Research shows ketamine can offer relief when other treatments haven't worked. Many people notice improvements within hours or days, rather than weeks.
How Ketamine Works in Your Brain
Ketamine works differently than traditional antidepressants. It acts on glutamate, a brain chemical that affects mood, thought patterns, and how brain cells connect.
During treatment, ketamine can:
Help your brain form new neural connections
Reduce negative thought patterns
Create space for emotional processing
Provide relief from symptoms quickly
Many people describe the experience as opening new perspectives on long-standing problems.
What Makes Ketamine Different?
Rapid Response
Many people feel better quickly, sometimes within hours of treatment. This can provide hope during difficult times.
Research-Backed
Studies support ketamine's use for treatment-resistant depression and other mental health conditions. We stay current with the latest research.
Medically Supervised
All sessions include medical screening, vital sign monitoring, and licensed professionals present throughout your treatment.
Personalized Care
We create treatment plans based on your unique needs. You can choose medical protocols or more holistic, ceremonial approaches.
Your Treatment Options
We offer three ways to receive ketamine. Each has different timings and experiences.
Important: Response rates vary by person. Some people experience significant relief. Others see modest improvements. We'll discuss realistic expectations during your consultation.
Oral Sublingual Ketamine
How it works: A ketamine lozenge dissolves under your tongue. The medicine absorbs through the tissue in your mouth.
The experience: Effects begin gradually and last 50-90 minutes. This gentler approach works well if you're new to ketamine or prefer a less intense experience.
Best for:
- First-time ketamine users
- People who prefer gradual onset
- Those wanting a moderate therapeutic experience
May help with:
- Depression (including treatment-resistant depression)
- Anxiety disorders
- PTSD
- Chronic pain conditions
- OCD
- Emotional regulation challenges
- Suicidal thoughts (with immediate medical support)
Intramuscular (IM) Ketamine
How it works: Ketamine is given by injection into a muscle. This allows steady absorption into your bloodstream.
The experience: Effects begin within 5-10 minutes and last about 45 minutes. This faster onset supports deeper therapeutic work.
Best for:
- People seeking a more immersive experience
- Those working through treatment-resistant conditions
- Clients ready for intensive therapeutic exploration
May help with:
- Severe or treatment-resistant depression
- Bipolar depression
- Generalized anxiety disorder
- PTSD
- OCD
- Chronic pain conditions
- Suicidal thoughts (with immediate stabilization)
- Trauma-related disorders
Intravenous (IV) Ketamine
How it works: Ketamine goes directly into your bloodstream through an IV line. This provides the most precise dosing control.
The experience: Effects begin smoothly and remain consistent for 40-60 minutes. This method offers the most controlled therapeutic environment.
Best for:
- People who haven't found relief with other treatments
- Those seeking the most immersive therapeutic experience
- Clients needing precise dose control
May help with:
- Treatment-resistant depression
- Severe anxiety disorders
- PTSD
- OCD
- Bipolar depression
- Chronic pain conditions
- Addiction recovery support
- Suicidal thoughts (with crisis support)

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. Ketamine is FDA-approved as an anesthetic. Licensed healthcare providers can legally prescribe it off-label for mental health treatment. This practice is common and accepted in medicine.
Medical ketamine therapy includes:
Carefully controlled doses Medical supervision and monitoring Professional screening for safety Integration with psychotherapy Focus on therapeutic benefits
This clinical approach maximizes benefits while minimizing risks.
You'll be in a safe, comfortable setting. A medical professional will be present throughout. The ketamine will be administered based on your treatment plan. You may experience altered perceptions or feelings. After effects wear off, you'll have time to process the experience.
As is standard across the industry, most KAP clinics-including Selva-do not currently bill insurance directly. This is due to the complexity of combining medical, therapeutic, and psychedelic support services, which often fall outside the scope of traditional insurance coverage.
That said, Selva offers superbills for your medical and ceremonial sits. Each clinician involved in your journey-psychiatric provider, therapist, or psychedelic integration facilitator-will provide a detailed superbill that includes CPT codes, session details, and diagnosis codes (when appropriate). You can submit these to your insurance provider for out-of-network reimbursement.
Most of our clients find that once they've met their deductible, they're able to get a significant portion of their journey reimbursed, making KAP a more financially accessible experience. During the intake process, we'll also provide the codes we plan to use so you can speak with your insurance ahead of time and understand your benefits.
The ranges reflect the customization of your treatment plan, based on the route of administration (oral, intramuscular, or intravenous) and the clinical support you choose to include.
For example, oral ketamine sessions tend to be lower cost, while IM or IV sessions involve additional medical administration and monitoring, which increases the investment. Similarly, if you opt for a more ceremonial experience with enhanced support (such as somatic work, spiritual guidance, or extended integration), that will be reflected in your plan.
We work with you during your consultation and intake to curate a package that fits your goals, preferences, and budget, and we provide a clear breakdown of costs before you commit. You’ll always know what’s included-and we’re here to adjust the plan as needed along the way.
A combination series blends elements of both medical and ceremonial models to give you a fully personalized healing experience. This means you’ll receive your ketamine from our licensed psychiatric provider (NP), while also working with a skilled facilitator for preparation, integration, and-if desired-emotional support during your medicine sessions.
In a combination sit, you can choose to have just the NP present for the medicine session, or both the NP and your facilitator holding space together, depending on your goals and preferences. Some clients prefer to receive the medicine clinically and connect with their facilitator only before and after; others feel most supported with both present during the session itself.
We’ll work with you to co-create the structure that feels safest, most aligned, and most effective for your healing.
Yes. At Selva, we offer a flexible and personalized approach to your healing journey. You're welcome to switch between oral, intramuscular (IM), or intravenous (IV) ketamine depending on how your body and nervous system respond-or if your goals shift over time.
Our clinical team will help guide these decisions based on your progress, sensitivity, and preferences. Any changes in route of administration may affect the overall cost of your package, but we'll always review those adjustments with you beforehand and provide updated payment options if needed.
Our goal is to ensure your experience remains safe, effective, and aligned with your evolving needs.
It depends on the medication. Some psychiatric medications-particularly SSRIs, SNRIs, benzodiazepines, mood stabilizers, and antipsychotics-can interact with ketamine or reduce its effectiveness. During your initial medical screening, our psychiatric provider will review your current medications in detail and determine whether it's safe to proceed, or if any adjustments need to be made prior to treatment.
In many cases, clients are able to move forward safely with guidance from their prescriber and our team. We always prioritize your physical and emotional safety, and we collaborate closely with you to ensure your treatment plan is both effective and supportive of your overall mental health.
Ketamine therapy pricing varies widely depending on the setting, level of care, and what's included. In many clinical or psychiatric-only settings, a single ketamine session can range from $400 to $800, often without therapeutic preparation or integration. Some full-service clinics charge $4,000-$6,000 for 6-session series, while concierge or luxury experiences can exceed $10,000+.
At Selva, our pricing reflects a holistic, trauma-informed, and personalized approach, blending medical safety, emotional support, and ceremonial care. Each package is designed to include everything you need-medical clearance, medicine sessions, prep and integration support-so you're not left piecing it together on your own. We also offer flexible payment plans and superbills to support accessibility.
Yes, Selva offers both in-office and at-home ketamine sessions depending on your treatment plan and preferences. Oral ketamine sessions can often be facilitated at home with proper medical clearance and virtual or in-person support. Uniquely, our psychiatric nurse practitioner is also able to provide IM and IV administration in your home for clients who meet safety criteria and prefer to journey in their own space.
We'll help assess what setting is best for your goals, comfort, and clinical needs during your consultation and intake process.
Ketamine doesn't work for everyone. If you don't experience relief after several sessions, we'll discuss other treatment options. Your mental health matters, and we're committed to finding approaches that help.
No. You should not drive on the day of treatment. Please arrange for someone to take you home or plan to use a ride service.
When used in a medical setting with appropriate dosing, serious long-term side effects are rare. We monitor your health throughout treatment. Long-term recreational use can cause problems, but medical use is different.

Their approach integrates mind-body practices, neuroscience, and trauma-informed therapy, which helped me not just manage stress but truly understand and shift patterns that were holding me back. The Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) with Ana was transformative, and Emma’s holistic medication management was thoughtful and precise-no one-size-fits-all here.
